Sebilj ili Sebil je arapska riječ u značenju "put", ali kao termin označava dobrotvornu, vrlo staru instituciju, fontanu posebnog oblika na trgovima, na kojoj je sebiljdžija tasom zahvatao vodu iz korita i besplatno napajao žedne.
Sebilj na Baščaršiji je jedini objekat te vrste u Sarajevu, izgrađen 1891. godine, po nacrtu češkog arhitekte Aleksandra Viteka[1][2]. Sebilj, kojeg je podigao 1754. godine bosanski vezir Mehmed-paša Kukavica, izgorio je u požaru 1852. godine, a nalazio se nešto niže od današnjeg.

he Sebilj is a pseudo-Moorish style wooden fountain (Sebil) in the centre of Baščaršija square in Sarajevo built by Mehmed-pasha Kukavica in 1753. It was relocated by Czech architect Alexander Vitek in 1891. It is also frequently called “the pigeon square.”
A multi-national collaborative public arts project created a life-size contemporary interpretation of the famous public fountain and landmark in Birmingham, utilising traditional Bosnian design and craft techniques and combined with modern digital technology.
